Set Up Multifactor Authentication on Your Own Account

Multifactor authentication, also known as two-step verification adds a second layer of protection to your account.

Once you set up multifactor authentication, you will log in and verify your identity using either your mobile authenticator app or your backup method (text message or email).

LastPass Authenticator

  1. Log in to your account at join.me using your LogMeIn ID ID (email address) and password.
  2. At the top of the page, select your email address and then Account settings.

    Result: The Account settings page is displayed.

  3. Under Security, look for Two-step verification and select get started. Read the introductory information and click again to get started.

    Result: The Protect your account page is displayed.

  4. On the Protect your account page, select Set up mobile app.
  5. If you already have LastPass Authenticator, select Next.
    Tip: You can download the app here.

    Result: The Set up mobile page is displayed with a scannable QR code.

  6. On your mobile device, launch the Launch LastPass Authenticator app and select + > Scan QR code. Then physically hold your device in front of the browser to scan the QR code.

    Result: A message is displayed confirming that your device has been paired to your account. Tap to dismiss the message.

  7. Return to the join.me website and choose the backup method to use when your primary method is unavailable.
    • To receive login codes via text message:
      1. Select Set up text message.
      2. Enter the phone number to which login codes should be sent and select Next. A code is sent.
      3. Go to your phone and open the text message from GoTo.
      4. Enter the code from the text message on the Verify phone number page.
      5. Select Finish text setup.
    • To receive login codes via email:
      1. Select Set up email.
      2. Enter the email address you want to use to receive codes. To use the same address you use to log in to the client, select Next.
      3. Go to your email inbox and open the message from GoTo.
      4. Enter the code on the Set up email page in your browser.
      5. Select Finish email setup.
  8. Finally, select Activate at the bottom of the page to turn on two-step verification.

Google Authenticator

Make sure you have Google Authenticator installed on your mobile device. If you experience issues with the Google Authenticator, please contact Google Support.

  1. Log in to your account at join.me using your LogMeIn ID ID (email address) and password.
  2. At the top of the page, select your email address and then Account settings.

    Result: The Account settings page is displayed.

  3. Under Security, look for Two-Step Verification and select get started. The Protect your account page is displayed.

  4. On the Protect your account page, select Set up mobile app then Next.
  5. In the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device, tap the + icon to add an account.
  6. Tap Scan a QR code and physically hold your device in front of the join.me website to scan the code, then select Next.
  7. Enter the six-digit code listed for your LogMeIn account in your Google Authenticator app, then select Finish mobile setup.

  8. Return to the join.me website and choose the backup method to use when your primary method is unavailable.
    • To receive login codes via text message:
      1. Select Set up text message.
      2. Enter the phone number to which login codes should be sent and select Next. A code is sent.
      3. Go to your phone and open the text message from GoTo.
      4. Enter the code from the text message on the Verify phone number page.
      5. Select Finish text setup.
    • To receive login codes via email:
      1. Select Set up email.
      2. Enter the email address you want to use to receive codes. To use the same address you use to log in to the client, select Next.
      3. Go to your email inbox and open the message from GoTo.
      4. Enter the code on the Set up email page in your browser.
      5. Select Finish email setup.
  9. Finally, select Activate at the bottom of the page to turn on two-factor authentication.
Results: The next time you log in, you'll be prompted to enter the security code displayed in your Google Authenticator app.

Microsoft Authenticator

Before you begin: Make sure you have Microsoft Authenticator installed on your mobile device.
  1. Log in to your account at join.me using your LogMeIn ID ID (email address) and password.
  2. At the top of the page, select your email address and then Account settings.

    Result: The Account settings page is displayed.

  3. Under Security, look for Two-Step Verification and select get started. The Protect your account page is displayed.
  4. On the Protect your account page, select Set up mobile app then Next.
  5. In the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, tap the + icon to add an account.

  6. Tap Personal account as the type of account. Add an account in the following ways:
    • Sign in to your account.
    • Open a scanner app on your mobile device to scan the QR code.
  7. Physically hold your device in front of the join.me website to scan the code, then select Next.
  8. Enter the six-digit code listed for your LogMeIn account in your Microsoft Authenticator app, then select Finish mobile setup.

  9. Return to the join.me website and choose the backup method to use when your primary method is unavailable.

      1. Select Set up text message.
      2. Enter the phone number to which login codes should be sent and select Next. A code is sent.

    • To receive login codes via email:
      1. Select Set up email.
      2. Enter the email address you want to use to receive codes. To use the same address you use to log in to the client, select Next.
      3. Go to your email inbox and open the message from GoTo.
      4. Enter the code on the Set up email page in your browser.
      5. Select Finish email setup.
  10. Finally, select Activate at the bottom of the page to turn on multifactor authentication.
Results: The next time you log in, you'll be prompted to enter the security code displayed in your Microsoft Authenticator app.

What to expect after setup

LastPass Authenticator
Tap the on-screen notification to confirm your identity.
Authenticator app other than LastPass Authenticator
Enter a one-time code that you get from the paired authenticator app.
Text message
Enter the one-time code sent to the number.
Primary method is unavailable
Request a code via your backup.

Turn off multifactor authentication

You may want to switch off multifactor authentication if you get a new device or no longer want to use the feature.

Remember: You may be required by your admin to use two-step verification.
  1. Log in to your account at join.me using your LogMeIn ID ID (email address) and password.
  2. At the top of the page, select your email address and then Account settings.

    Result: The Account settings page is displayed.

  3. Under Security, select Switch off.
    You may be prompted to confirm your identity and review your settings before actually switching off two-step verification.
  4. To remove pairing for all existing devices, select Clear all settings when I switch off.
    Tip: GoTo will still be listed in your app, but any login codes it generates will not be accepted. To avoid confusion, we recommend removing GoTo from your app.
  5. select Switch off.

Where is multifactor authentication valid?

Multifactor authentication works with GoTo products and components that allow login via http://accounts.logme.in, GoTo's common login service. Certain legacy products and components do not meet this requirement.
