How do I create/remove a Computer Access Code?
On a Windows host, you can change a Computer Access Code - also known as computer passcode - by setting up a user called LogMeInRemoteUser. You would only create a Computer Access Code on remote computers where you do not enter a password to sign in. A Computer Access Code essentially adds protection for such computers.
Method One: Computer Management
- Go to the computer that you want to be able to access remotely and start Computer Management.
- Open the Run dialog by holding down the Windows logo key and pressing the letter 'R' on your keyboard.
- Type compmgmt.msc and click OK. The Computer Management window is displayed.
- Click Local Users and Groups.
- On the left panel, open the Users folder.
- Do you see LogMeInRemoteUser in the list of users? If not, jump to step 3.
- Right-click LogMeInRemoteUser to display the menu and select Set Password.
- Click Proceed.
- Enter and confirm a password.
Important: This password is one and the same as your Computer Access Code.
- Click OK.
- Jump to Step 5.
- Create the user called LogMeInRemoteUser.
- Right-click to display the menu and select New User. The New User window is displayed.
- In the New User window under User name, type LogMeInRemoteUser (one word, exactly as shown).
- Enter and confirm a password.
Important: This password is one and the same as your Computer Access Code.
- Select Password never expires.
- Click Create. A new user called LogMeInRemoteUser is created.
- Close the New User window. The Computer Management window is displayed.
- Add LogMeInRemoteUser to the Administrators group.
- On the left panel, open the Groups folder and double click Administrators.
- In the Administrators Properties window, click Add.
- Under Enter the object names to select, enter LogMeInRemoteUser.
Tip: If you receive a Name Not Found error, select the computer's domain under Locations and set it to the local computer: computername\LogMeInRemoteUser.
- Click OK and close the Computer Management window.
- Restart the host service.
- Open the Run dialog by holding down the Windows logo key and pressing the letter 'R' on your keyboard.
- Type services.msc and click OK.
- On the list of services, right-click LogMeIn and select Restart.
When you next log in to this computer using the host software, you will be prompted to enter the password you created for LogMeInRemoteUser. In other words, the password for LogMeInRemoteUser is exactly the same as your Computer Access Code.
Method Two: Control Panel
- Open the Run dialog by pressing the Windows key + R.
- Type control userpasswords2.
- Click Add
- Depending on your Windows version, do the following:
On Windows 8 and 10 computers:
- Click Sign in without a Microsoft account.
- Click Local account.
- In the user name box, type exactly: LogMeInRemoteUser
- In the password screen set a password that is at least 8 characters long, keep in mind that it is case sensitive. This password will be the Access Code.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. The newly created user s displayed.
- Double-click LogMeInRemoteUser and click the Group Membership tab.
- Select Administrator and click OK.
On computers running other Windows versions:
- In the user name box, type exactly: LogMeInRemoteUser and click Next.
- In the password screen set a password that is at least 8 characters long, keep in mind that it is case sensitive. This password will be the Access Code.
- Click Next.
- You will be asked "What Level of Access do you want to Grant this User?" Select Other and make sure Administrator is selected.
In the future, you will use the password you created as the access code when you connect to the computer.
