New LastPass Experience User FAQs

The new LastPass user experience is here! This updated look and structure gives you easy access to your digital life so you can store, fill, and share a wider variety of information faster than ever. With the new look of LastPass, you’ll be more productive – and more in control.

What are the biggest changes to the new user experience?

In the previous user experience, form fill profiles and secure notes saved relevant information like address, payment cards, phone number, and more altogether as one single form fill item or secure note. In the new user experience, the values within these form fill profiles and secure notes have been split up as individual item entries and grouped into relevant categories. By allowing you to fill in individual items (like a payment card or address), filling forms will be more accurate and efficient. For example, if you are checking out of a shopping site and want to send a package to your office address, you can autofill payment information with your personal payment card, then autofill the address of your office (using two separate Vault entries).

Additionally, all entries for form fill item and secure note types are grouped together. For example, if you had a form fill profile that stored your company address and company credit card – these will now be stored as separate items within your Vault (as Addresses and Payment Cards, respectively). This provides a more granular organization of your stored items. This also allows you to automatically fill secure note data, which was previously not supported.

You can learn how to manage your form fills in the new user experience, or view our blog post for more information.

When will I see the new user experience?

Most LastPass personal account users are already enabled with the new user experience, and the remainder will become enabled with it as we roll it out throughout 2020. LastPass business accounts will continue to be migrated in a slow rollout process throughout 2020.

Once enabled, the first time you log in to LastPass, a greeting message will appear and guide you through a tour of the new user experience.

Where are my form fills and secure notes?

In the previous user experience, form fill profiles and secure notes saved relevant information like address, payment cards, phone number, and more altogether as one single form or note. In the new user experience, the values within these form fill profiles and secure notes have been split up as individual item entries and grouped into relevant categories. For example, the address from a form fill profile is now saved under Addresses, payment cards are each saved as individual items under Payment Cards, and so on. With these new changes, you can now autofill secure note data, which previously was not supported.

What actions do I need to take?

If you did not have any form fill profiles in your Vault prior to being migrated to the new user experience, you will not need to take any action when you log in to LastPass and access your Vault. You will automatically be guided on a tour to introduce you to the new user experience.

However, if you had form fill profiles and secure notes stored in the previous user experience, you will encounter a greeting message that will guide you through a tour of the new user experience (including changes to your item entries) when you log in to LastPass and access your online web Vault.

This migration experience for users with form fills and secure notes varies only slightly, depending on which device or web browser you are using.

I don't see my data in the new categories, how can I access them?

If you cannot find your data, you may still need to complete the update. Please follow these instructions.

How long will it take to migrate my form fills and secure notes?

Once you have agreed to move your form fills and secure notes to the new user experience, it can take either a few seconds or up to a few minutes, depending on the amount of those items that you have in your Vault.

Will any data be lost when I migrate to the new user experience?

No. All of your LastPass Vault data will be preserved. The only change that you will notice is that values within your form fill profiles and secure notes (from the previous experience) have now been split up as individual item entries and grouped into relevant categories in the new user experience. If you do not see form fill or secure note data, please be sure you have completed the migration (as described above).

Will this migration affect sharing?

No. All information that was previous shared with others will remain shared.

Can I switch back to the previous user experience if needed?

No. Once you have migrated to the new user experience, you cannot be rolled back to the previous experience. Please keep in mind that all LastPass users – both business and personal – are being migrated to this new user experience, as the previous experience will no longer be supported.

Where are my Favorite items?

Your Favorite items can still be accessed easily via the LastPass web browser extension menu and the Favorites folder within your Vault. Favorites have not been moved or changed in the new user experience. Learn how to manage your Favorites.
