Leave LastPass Families

As a Family Manager or Member, you can learn about what happens when you leave your LastPass Families account. If you are a Family Owner, you can close your LastPass Families account for yourself and all family members.

Note: Once you create a LastPass Families account, you are both the Family Manager and Family Owner. As the Family Owner, this means another Family Manager cannot remove your admin rights (i.e., downgrade your role to be a family member) or remove you from the account.

About leaving a LastPass Families account

If you leave a LastPass Families account (as a Family Member or Manager), please keep in mind:

  • Your account status will revert to a LastPass Free plan, unless you upgrade to a Premium, Teams, or Enterprise plan tier (see pricing and features)
  • You will no longer have access to shared folders that were shared with you or the items in those shared folders
  • Any folders that you shared will no longer be accessible to family members
  • All passwords, notes, and items in your Vault will remain
  • Any emergency access contacts that you set up will remain

If you close a LastPass Families account (as a Family Owner), keep in mind:

  • Your account is affected in the same ways as leaving a LastPass Families account (listed above)
  • Before you can close your account, you are required to move all items from your shared folders into a standard folder or your Vault

Leave a LastPass Families account

  1. Log in to LastPass and access your Vault:
    1. Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your username and Master Password.
    2. In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon LastPass then click Open My Vault.
  2. Select Account Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Under Account Information, click My Account.
  4. Click the Leave family button, then click Leave Family to confirm.

Delete a LastPass Families account

  1. Log in to LastPass and access your Vault:
    1. Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your username and Master Password.
    2. In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon LastPass then click Open My Vault.
  2. Select Account Settings in the left navigation.
  3. Under Account Information, click My Account.
  4. Click the Delete family button. If you have any remaining items in your shared folders, click Go to My Vault and move those items out of your shared folders and into a standard folder or your Vault (learn how here).
  5. When ready, click Delete Family to confirm. You will now be downgraded to a Free User account.
