How do I use the LastPass MFA app when my device is offline?

If you are in a location with little to no Internet connectivity, or your device is in Airplane mode, you can use a time-based One-Time Passcode (TOTP) generated by the LastPass MFA app in order to authenticate while your device is offline.

Note:  This feature must be enabled as an authentication policy for your account by a LastPass admin, and is only available to those with a LastPass Business account.

Use LastPass MFA offline while logging in to the LastPass web browser extension

  1. On your (offline) mobile device, open the LastPass MFA app.
  2. Tap or select One-Time Passcodes in the lower-left navigation of your app screen.
  3. Verify your identity using biometric or pattern.
  4. Locate your desired time-based One-Time Passcode (TOTP), and take note of the code displayed.
  5. On your desktop, click the inactive LastPass icon in your web browser toolbar.
  6. Enter your username and your Master Password, then click Log In .
  7. When prompted, enter the time-based One-Time Passcode displayed in the LastPass MFA app.
  8. Click Authenticate.

You are now logged in to the LastPass web browser extension with an active LastPass icon LastPass displayed in your toolbar.


Use LastPass MFA offline with apps or websites

Your LastPass admin must configure apps and websites in order for you to use the LastPass MFA app for authentication.

  1. Navigate to your desired app or website (that uses LastPass MFA) and select the option on the login screen to use a time-based one-time passcode.
  2. On your (offline) mobile device, open the LastPass MFA app.
  3. Tap or select One-Time Passcodes in the lower-left navigation of your app screen.
  4. Verify your identity using biometric or pattern.
  5. Locate your desired device & LastPass MFA account entry, and take note of the passcode displayed.
  6. Back on your website or app, enter the One-Time Passcode and proceed to log in.

You are now logged in to your app or website.

Log in to LastPass while the LastPass MFA app is offline

Access your LastPass Vault and use the LastPass MFA app for authentication while offline.

  1. On your (offline) mobile device, open the LastPass MFA app.
  2. Tap or select One-Time Passcodes in the lower-left navigation of the LastPass MFA app.
  3. When prompted, use face, fingerprint, or pattern for authentication.
  4. Locate your desired time-based One-Time Passcode (TOTP), and take note of the code displayed.
  5. On your desktop, click the inactive LastPass icon in your web browser toolbar.
  6. Enter your email address and your Master Password, then click Log In.
  7. When prompted, enter the TOTP (displayed in the LastPass MFA app).
  8. Click Authenticate.
You are now logged in to the LastPass web browser extension in offline mode, and an active LastPass icon LastPass is displayed in your toolbar.

Log in to other apps or websites while the LastPass MFA app is offline

Apps and websites can be configured by your LastPass admin to allow you to use the LastPass MFA app for authentication while offline.

  1. Navigate to your desired app or website (that uses the LastPass MFA app) and select the option on the login screen to use a time-based one-time passcode.
  2. On your (offline) mobile device, open the LastPass MFA app.
  3. Tap or select One-Time Passcodes in the lower-left navigation of the LastPass MFA app.
  4. When prompted, use face, fingerprint, or pattern for authentication.
  5. Locate your desired time-based One-Time Passcode (TOTP), and take note of the code displayed.
  6. Back on your website or app, enter the TOTP (displayed in the LastPass MFA app) and proceed to log in.
You are now logged in to your app or website.
