How do I set up and use Fingerprint biometrics with LastPass for my Android device?

You can set up Fingerprint biometrics on your Android device and use it to authenticate your identity for the LastPass Password Manager app or use mobile account recovery.

Set up Fingerprint biometrics for your device

Enable Fingerprint biometrics for LastPass

  1. Download and install the LastPass Password Manager app for Android.
  2. Open the LastPass app on your mobile device.
  3. Enter your username and Master Password, then select Log In.
Note: If you don't already have a LastPass account, select Create Account in the upper-right of the main toolbar and follow the steps to create a username and Master Password.
    • If logging in to the app for the first time, you are prompted to select Turn On Biometrics.
    • If you skipped turning on biometrics, you can manually enable it by selecting the Vault Menu icon in the upper left navigation, then selecting Settings > Security and toggling on the switch for the Unlock with biometrics option.
  4. Scan your fingerprint to authenticate.
  5. Once your fingerprint is accepted, you're all set.

LastPass is now enabled to use Fingerprint for authentication when opening the LastPass app and filling in login data on apps and websites.

Use Fingerprint to log in to LastPass

You can use biometrics to authenticate when logging in to LastPass.

Before you begin: You must log in to the LastPass Password Manager app with your username and Master Password and enable biometrics in LastPass before you can authenticate using biometrics.
  1. Open the LastPass Password Manager app.
  2. Depending on your device type, do either of the following:
    • To use facial recognition, glance at your device while holding in portrait orientation.
    • To use fingerprint authentication, scan your fingerprint on the sensor.
  3. Once verified, a successful confirmation message is displayed.

You are now logged in to the LastPass Password Manager app and accessing your Vault.

Use Fingerprint for autofill

  1. Navigate to an app or website on your device (for which LastPass has stored login info).
  2. Select Autofill with LastPass within the login field.
  3. Scan your fingerprint to authenticate.
  4. Once your fingerprint is accepted, your login credentials will be autofilled, and you can proceed to log in on your app or website.

Settings that prompt for use of biometrics

The option to use biometrics will appear in the following scenarios:

  • When you have enabled the Reprompt for Master Password feature (globally or for specific site entries).
  • When you have saved your Master Password in the app's login page, and are returning back to the app. Additionally, you must tap the Vault Options icon and go to Settings > Security and toggle on the switch for Lock LastPass automatically.
  • When you have a company policy that requires a Reprompt for Master Password (Enterprise or Identity users).
  • If you have enabled the Reprompt for Master Password setting in the App Fill Window.
