How do I log in to LastPass using different multifactor authentication options?

LastPass allows you to set up and configure more than one multifactor authentication option so that you can access your LastPass Vault by authenticating from any device where you have set up and registered authenticators.

Use an alternative multifactor option from the desktop

You must have more than one multifactor authentication option enabled within the Multifactor Options of your LastPass Vault before proceeding.
You can log in to LastPass using the LastPass web browser extension or via your online web Vault login page and choosing an alternative multifactor authentication option in order to access your Vault.

Note: If you have a LastPass Teams, Enterprise, or Identity account, the ability to perform these actions may be limited or prohibited due to policies enabled by your LastPass admin.
  1. Log in to LastPass by doing either of the following:
    • LastPass web browser extension – In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon , then log in with your username and Master Password.

    • Online web Vault – Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your username and Master Password.

  2. When prompted with multifactor authentication, click Additional Multifactor Options.

Note: If you are part of a company account and a policy has been enforced to only allow one multifactor option, the "Additional Multifactor Options" section will not be displayed.

  3. Select your desired multifactor option from the list at the bottom.

  4. Follow the prompts to authenticate, which will vary depending on the multifactor option you selected (e.g., enter a one-time passcode or SMS code, use biometrics or pattern, etc.).
    1. If entering a passcode or SMS code, click Authenticate Login to continue.
  5. Optional: If desired, you can toggle on the switch for Trust this computer for 30 days so that you are not prompted to authenticate within that time frame.
You have now logged in to LastPass and authenticated using a different multifactor option than your account's default selection.

Use an alternative multifactor option from your mobile device

You must have more than one multifactor authentication option enabled within the Multifactor Options of your LastPass Vault before proceeding.
  1. On your iOS or Android device, open the LastPass Password Manager mobile app.
  2. Enter your username and Master Password, then tap or select Log In.
  3. When prompted for multifactor authentication, tap or select Use Alternative Multifactor.

Note: If you are part of a company account and a policy has been enforced to only allow one multifactor option, the "Use Alternative Multifactor" section will not be displayed.

  4. Tap or select your desired multifactor authentication option from the list at the bottom.

  5. Follow the prompts to authenticate, which will vary depending on the multifactor option you selected (e.g., enter a one-time passcode or SMS code, use biometrics or pattern, scan your NFC-enabled key, etc.).
  6. Optional: If desired, you can toggle on the switch for Trust this device so you are not prompted to authenticate within the next 30 days.
You have now logged in to the LastPass Password Manager mobile app and authenticated using a different multifactor option than your account's default selection.
