Best Practices for Traveling with LastPass
Going somewhere? Take LastPass with you! Whether you are traveling for business or taking a vacation, let LastPass keep your digital life secure and organized for all your travel needs.
If you have a LastPass Teams or LastPass Business account, the ability to perform these actions may be limited or prohibited due to policies enabled by your LastPass admin.
Be prepared for security verification
While traveling, you may be prompted for email verification to confirm that it's really you that is trying to access LastPass from a new or unrecognized location. If you know you won't have access to your LastPass account email address while you're away, you can add a secondary security email address where device verification (and/or account recovery emails) can be sent.
Set up all account recovery options
Anything can be forgotten – including your master password! Set up and configure all account recovery options (especially mobile account recovery) so that you can regain access to your LastPass Vault if you if happen to forget your master password while you are traveling.
Even if you decide that you will never use the LastPass Password Manager mobile app, setting up mobile account recovery on your iOS or Android device acts as a safety net in which you can reset your master password using biometrics (facial recognition or fingerprint identification).
Upload your important documents
- Driver's license
- Health insurance
- Vaccination card
- Medical documents
Set up additional multifactor authentication options
If you have set up multifactor authentication to protect your LastPass Vault, you can enable more than one multifactor option (even using multiple trusted devices) as a backup authentication method just in case you are unable to access or use your primary method of authentication while traveling.
Enable autofill on all devices
For quick login access to everything you need while traveling (e.g., travel sites, itineraries, reservations, etc.), you can enable and use autofill on all iOS and Android devices you're taking with you on your trip. For even faster logins to trusted sites, you can also enable autologin to automatically sign you in to apps and sites.
Enable offline access
You can enable offline access for your multifactor options so that you can still access your LastPass Vault when you log in from a device with little to no internet connectivity.
Export your Vault data
No mobile device? No problem! If you are unable to access LastPass from your mobile device, you can still export your Vault data and as an encrypted XML file and save it securely on your personal or work computer so you can reference your stored logins.
Generate temporary one-time passwords
If you don't plan on bringing a personal or work computer on your trip, you can generate temporary one-time passwords (OTPs) so you can safely log in to LastPass from a public or untrusted computer using one OTP per login session.
Restrict logins to specific countries
If you plan to travel internationally, we recommend adding any additional countries to your trusted list, as LastPass only restricts you to the country where your account was created (by default).
Wherever you're headed, LastPass has got you covered so that you can have peace of mind on your trip – safe travels!
