Manage Your Vault Identities

Depending on how many Sites you visit that require a username and password, your Vault may get crowded, where it’s not easy to find the Site that you are looking for. To solve this problem, you can create mini-vaults, called identities, where the items in a given identity are all similar. For example, if most of your Sites fall into the categories of shopping, vacations, and computers, you could create 3 identities that each contain the appropriate Sites (e.g., the shopping identity would contain only the shopping Sites, the vacation identity would contain only the vacation Sites, and so forth). Another typical use of identities would be home and work. When you are at work, you may want to only view and deal with work-related Sites and Form Fills, while when you are at home, you would choose to view and deal with personal sites involving shopping, classes, community center leagues, and so forth. To organize yourself, you could create 2 identities – 1 for home, and 1 for work.

Create an Identity

To create an identity, do the following:

  1. Log in to LastPass and access your Vault by doing either of the following:
    • Go to https://lastpass.com/?ac=1 and log in with your username and Master Password.
    • In your web browser toolbar, click the LastPass icon LastPass then click Open My Vault.
  2. Select More Options in the left navigation.
  3. Go to Advanced > Manage Identities.
  4. In the bottom-right corner, click the Add icon .
  5. In the left column, assign a Name to the new identity. Drag from the center column to the right column whichever sites you would like to include in the new identity, and click Save when finished.

Note: You can put the same items into more than one identity.

Edit your Identities

Once you have created at least one identity, you will likely want to edit it over time, adding items to it, and removing other items from it. To edit an identity, do the following:

  4. Hover over the identity you wish to work with, and then click the Edit icon .
  5. When prompted, enter your Master Password and click Continue. Optionally, you can check to enable the "Do not re-prompt for" option, and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval.

Note: This is not recommended when using a public or untrusted computer.

  6. The items that are currently in that identity are in the right column. To remove an item, drag and drop it from the right column to the middle column. To add an item to the identity, drag and drop it from the middle column to the right column. When you are done, click Save.

Switch Identities

After you have set up 1 or more identities and have organized Sites, Secure Notes, and/or Form Fills in them, you can switch to using your desired identity in either of the following ways:

  4. Hover over your desired identity and click Enable.
  5. When the system prompts you, enter your Master Password and click Continue. If desired, you can check to enable the "Do not re-prompt for" option, and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval.

Note: This is not recommended when using a public or untrusted computer.

  6. While you are using this identity, only the passwords, notes, and items associated with this identity are available to you. To switch to another identity, you can click your user account drop-down menu and make your selection. Additionally, you can switch to the "All" identity that gives you access to your entire Vault at any time.

Delete an Identity

Note: Deleting an identity does not delete the Sites associated with it, they are still accessible within other identities or the "All" identity.

  4. Hover over your desired identity, then click the Delete icon .
  5. When prompted, enter your Master Password and click Continue. If desired, you can check to enable the "Do not re-prompt for" option, and use the drop-down menu to select a time interval.

Note: This is not recommended when using a public or untrusted computer.

  6. When prompted, click Yes to confirm.
