What are the Call Screening, Call Announce and Direct Connect options?

We offer three options for handling incoming calls. While being forwarded to your phone, the caller is placed on hold and will hear music, a ringing tone, or a transfer greeting before you pickup. However, you can customize the way you answer these inbound calls.

Please review our three forwarding options and their functions below:

Call Announce
(recommended)
"Calls will be announced when you pick up"
  • The extension you are receiving the call for is announced to you.
  • You will then be prompted to Press 1 to accept the call, Press 2 to send the caller to voicemail, or Press 3 to hear the caller's phone number.
  • If you don’t take the call, Grasshopper will accept the voicemail and send you a notification via email.
Call Screening "Callers will be asked for their name, then announced to you."
  • Asks the caller to record their name before placing them on hold and transferring the call to you.
  • When you pickup, the caller's recorded name is announced to you.
  • You will then be prompted to Press 1 to accept the call, Press 2 to send the caller to voicemail, or Press 3 to hear the caller's phone number.
  • If you don’t take the call, Grasshopper will accept the voicemail and send you a notification via email.
Direct Connect "Calls will connect to you as soon as you pick up."
  • The call is immediately connected to you without any options or announcements.
  • If you don’t take the call, your callers won’t be sent back to Grasshopper to leave a message - instead they’ll go to your personal phone’s voicemail system. This is great if you want to use your cell phone voicemail or your landline message system.
