QUESTION AND ANSWER

What are USF & Telecom Taxes?

Issue

Objective

Environment

  • OpenVoice
  • OpenVoice Integrated

Procedure

Answer

  • OpenVoice is charged with additional fees such as USF and various state taxes, that are dependent on which state the customer is billed to.
  • USF is a federal tax applied to telecommunications services. This tax is not eligible for exemption. Further information can be found here.
  • State Tax:  Telecom state taxes will list separately from sales tax. OpenVoice audio products are considered intrastate toll service, and therefore are subject to state telecommunications taxes and fees., which are separate from Federal USF. While these taxes do not impact every state, individual states have their own jurisdiction and right to tax as they see fit. IF you’d like more information on your state tax regulations, specific to telecommunications, please visit your (state).gov website.
