Review a list of frequently asked questions about setting up your GoToMyPC software.

Can I install GoToMyPC 6.0 on a Windows 95, 98, ME or NT computer?

No. GoToMyPC version 6.0 or later must be installed on a PC with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Mac OS X 10.4 or newer. However, you can remotely connect to your host PC from computers with older operating systems. Please see the System Requirements section for more information. If installation is attempted on a PC with an older OS, you will be redirected to install GoToMyPC 5.0.

In this case, you are stuck in the authentication loop. This usually means that the computer you are on is behind a firewall. Our product, cannot currently get through some highly selective firewall systems. As a possible work-around, we suggest opening port 8200 on your firewall and router . Please see IP Range document for current IP addresses. If you use personal firewall software, make sure GoToMyPC has been added to its list of software that is allowed to access the Internet.

The GoToMyPC icon in the system tray has a red x. What does this mean?

GoToMyPC freezes with Communicating with Server message and the icon shows a red x.

GoToMyPC tests communications because the program needs to connect to our servers to access your computer remotely. If you have a working Internet connection and GoToMyPC freezes when you see the Communicating with server message, try the following:

  • Check to see if your computer's security software is preventing a connection with GoToMyPC servers. Please see the firewall section of our support page for help configuring your firewall to allow GoToMyPC connections.
  • If you use GoToMyPC in a corporate environment or an area where there may be network security, run our GoToMyPC Connection Wizard. The Connection Wizard performs additional tests to find open connections to our servers from your host computer. These connections are stored on your computer for GoToMyPC to use for any future connections.
  • Make sure that your Internet connection meets GoToMyPC's minimum Internet connection requirements. Satellite, cellular air cards, dial-up and other non-broadband Internet connections do not meet our requirements and may prevent you from completing the GoToMyPC set-up process or connecting to a host computer.
  • Restrictions to your local network may require additional authentication, such as Windows or network log-in credentials, for an application to access the Internet. Our software normally completes this process automatically, but you may be prompted to input this information yourself. If you have additional questions, please contact your IT department or network administrator or see Connection Test Help.

For additional support, contact your network administrator for assistance.
